The Importance of Place Card Holders in a Wedding

By Andrea M.

The number of details couples must deal with when planning a wedding can seem overwhelming sometimes. Many things have to be taken care of before the big day. Flowers and decorations, food to feed all the guests, and many other items must be ordered. A seating chart must be made out and place cards printed with the guests' names. Place card holders may seem like a minor detail, yet their absence can be serious to the bride because her perfect day would be marred.

Seating charts are a necessary item for the wedding reception because there are usually a fairly large number of people present. These people are all friends of family of the bride and/or groom, yet there is no guarantee that all of these people will be able to tolerate one another's company for an extended period. Another good reason for having a seating chart in mind is that most catering services will offer a choice of two different entrees for guests to choose from and the seating arrangement will make it easier to determine where each dish is going to be served.

Place cards are an important measure when a using a seating arrangement that ensures that everyone present knows where they are to sit during the dinner. To many people, it would be tacky to simply put the place cards in their plates to mark where they are to sit. There is also the fact that the cards are probably not sanitary enough to touch the plates considering the number of times they have been handled by different people.

Placecard holders are usually a multipurpose item at the reception. These are often also one of the wedding favors given to the guests as "Thank you" gifts for attending. Because of this facet of their purpose, place card holders should normally be something that the guests will glad to receive, yet they should not be overly expensive due to the number needed to give each individual one.

One item that makes a good example of a dual purpose placecard holder & wedding favor is a small photo frame that is placed at each seat with the place card inside and will hold a wedding photo after they are developed. There are several different styles of these frames, some that sit on top of a desk or shelf in the traditional manner, and some that are really glass coasters that can hold the place card now and a wedding photo later.

Some couples choose to go with something smaller that will be used as a placecard holder but not considered to be a wedding favor. The variety of small to tiny items that are slotted to hold place cards and designed to fit in with any wedding dcor without standing out greatly is vast. Even though these items are tiny and designed to go more or less unnoticed, there absence would spoil the effect of the day for the bride by detracting from the perfection of her day.

In the grand scheme of things, placecard holders may not seem very important. They are an easily overlooked item in the planning stages, yet they are a very important item. - 20785
